The Campus That Brings Nebraska Together
A 200+ acre nonprofit sports campus where over 500,000 visitors come each year to play, grow, and connect through sports.
It's A New Era.
When the campus was at risk of being sold, a coalition of local leaders, coaches, and families stepped forward to keep it where it belongs—in the heart of our community.
From Abbott Sports Complex to Lincoln Sports Foundation
This campus was close to disappearing. Originally known as Abbott Sports Complex, it had long served the Lincoln community. But as ownership challenges and legal disputes involving the Ethel S. Abbott Foundation unfolded, the future of the property became uncertain. Plans were in motion that would have sold the land for warehouse development — removing the fields, courts, and community space entirely. For a moment, that outcome was real.
Instead, the community stepped in. Lincoln Sports Foundation took over ownership and management of the campus, ensuring it would remain a place for sports, events, and community use — not redevelopment. From that point forward, the mission changed. This wasn’t about maintaining what existed. It was about rebuilding it.
LSF has since invested millions into transforming the campus — replacing fields, installing new turf, rebuilding courts, upgrading lighting, and improving infrastructure across more than 200 acres. What was once at risk of being lost is now operating at a completely different level. Today, LSF hosts over 500,000 visitors annually across 30+ sports and activities, with tournaments, practices, and major events running daily. And we’re still building.

Milestones Along the Way
Complex Opens
The campus opens as Abbott Sports Complex, built to serve Lincoln and the surrounding community as a central hub for athletics and events.
Uncertain Future - Legal Dispute
Ownership challenges and legal disputes involving the Ethel S. Abbott Foundation put the future of the complex in question. Plans emerge that would have sold the property for warehouse development — putting the entire campus at risk.
LSF Takes Over Ownership & Management
Lincoln Sports Foundation steps in to take over ownership and management, keeping the campus in community hands and preserving it as a place for sports, events, and activity.
Outdoor Renovations Begin
Investment into the campus begins with major outdoor upgrades, supported by grant and donor funding. Fields are rebuilt, infrastructure is improved, and the foundation for long-term growth is established.
Indoor Renovations Begin
The indoor facility undergoes a complete overhaul — including new hardwood courts, turf, lighting, and layout changes — dramatically increasing capacity, flexibility, and event potential. These upgrades were also made possible by grant and donor funding.
Today and Looking Forward
LSF now welcomes 500,000+ visitors annually across 200+ acres and 30+ sports and activities. It operates as one of the most active sports complexes in Nebraska — with continued investment and expansion already underway.
Where Community and Sport Meet in the Middle
People come to LSF to compete, train, host events, and be part of what’s happening. It’s a working campus — busy every day with athletes, teams, and organizations across all levels. We welcome 500,000+ visitors each year across 30+ sports and activities. From basketball and volleyball to soccer, archery, and motocross, LSF is built to handle it — and built to keep growing.
